Obesity remains a major public health challenge in Europe, yet evidence on how sustained physical
activity over time influences obesity risk is scarce, as most studies rely on single, baseline physical
activity measures. This limitation hampers the accurate identification of stable dose-response
relationships essential for preventive guidelines. Utilizing repeated physical activity assessments
from the Lifelines cohort, our study will precisely examine the longitudinal associations between
physical activity levels and total and abdominal obesity, informing tailored preventive strategies that
consider age, sex, and socioeconomic status population subgroups.
