Despite accessible care and other public facilities, there are significant health disparities in the Netherlands, between income groups but also between neighborhoods and regions. These differences are related to differences in socio-economic status and healthcare use. The causal relationships often run both ways. For example, health influences socio-economic status, and the reverse also applies. For example, people with low incomes have worse health on average than people with high incomes. At the same time, (sudden) health changes affect income and consumption, among other things. This project investigates: how do these differences in health and healthcare use develop, what are their causes, and how does government policy reduce or increase these differences?
