Cost of our biosamples
Costs for your biosample project depend on the number of samples you request and the complexity of the plate layout you request. In general, Lifelines charges costs that cover our expenses, as we are a non-profit organization. In other words, we charge fees that cover our project and biosample management hours. These costs are for the hours for the picking, checking, and handling the biosamples within the release. Additionally we charge a fee per biosample and a fee for the materials needed during the preparation of the samples.
Costs may vary depending on the type of application and/or project. Costs for linkage projects or additional studies can be found on their respective pages.
Costs
For every biosample release, data access is required to one of our research environments. In the example estimates below, we calculate data access for one Workspace user starting at €4,500 for one year data access. Data access is needed for preparing participant selection by a researcher and for analysis of generated biosample result data. The costs for data access can vary (see also costs of data).

Shipping costs are dependent on the number of biosamples that must be shipped. We charge €50 per box for shipment. Outside of the Netherlands we charge €300 per box. A box fits roughly 770 biosamples, depending on the type of container they are requested in. This leads to costs of roughly 10 cents per biosample within the Netherlands and 40 cents per biosample outside the Netherlands, within the EU. We do also ship outside of the EU, but we ask the applicant to arrange the necessary paperwork and cover the costs.
